For the School
God has placed Village Church in Pendleton for a purpose to glorify His name — and one of the clearest opportunities before us is right where we gather each week: Pendleton Elementary.
More than just a building, Pendleton Elementary is a vibrant community filled with students, educators, and families. As a church, we’re committed to loving and serving them in tangible ways, reflecting the grace we've received through Christ. This is one way we live out our mission to make disciples of all people for God’s glory.
How You Can Get Involved
Whether you’re looking to jump in for a day or serve more consistently, there’s a place for you to make a meaningful impact.
Serve the Teachers (Thursday, July 31): Teachers only get one workday before the start of school, so this is their opportunity to get their classrooms ready for students. Choose how you can serve: bring snacks for teachers or help with moving teachers in and setting up their classrooms amidst this short time frame.
If you can help teachers move, choose a shift on Thursday, July 31: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Back to School Bash (Thursday, July 31): That same evening of July 31st, Pendleton Elementary hosts a carnival-style welcome night where students can meet their teachers, play games and get excited for the new school year. Village Church has been given the opportunity to have a tent where we are going to give out backpacks full of school supplies, host a game and meet families. We would love to have our church family there to serve with joyful generosity!
Classroom Read-Alouds: Administrators have shared how impactful it is when adults—especially male role models—visit classrooms to read with students. Volunteers are paired with a class to occasionally stop by, read a book, and build rapport with students in a simple, meaningful way.
Staff Encouragers: Join a team to help us encourage and bless the school staff through praying, note-writing, and occasional gifts. Knowing they are appreciated and prayed for goes a long way!
We expect more one-time opportunities just like these throughout the year – stay tuned!
One-Time Opportunities:
Student Mentoring: What if 15 Village members could commit 30-minutes per week to mentor an at-risk student at Pendleton Elementary? Mentoring is a weekly commitment for the school year to simply build relationships with the child through having lunch in the cafeteria, reading together, or participating in recess with them.
Teacher support – Copies & Laminating: Each grade level needs weekly help behind the scenes with copying and laminating. If you enjoy quiet, practical service, this is a great way to bless teachers directly.
Ongoing Serving Opportunities:
Pray. Serve. Love.
We encourage you to prayerfully consider how you might help show the love of Christ in the Pendleton Elementary community this season. Whether through hands-on help or behind-the-scenes service, every opportunity is a chance to share Christ’s love in simple, meaningful ways.
Let’s be the church—right where we’ve been planted.
